Consumers will be reminded by CMS if they are on low performing plans

If you're working through AHIP and carrier specific training currently, you may have noticed the content on Low Performing Plans.  CMS plans to "nudge" consumers once again, with a reminder that the plan they're in, if applicable, has consistently underachieved (less than 3 stars for 3 consecutive years).  The beneficiary is directed to a variety of options for reconsideration at the bottom of the letter.  Last year there were 525,000 members across 26 plans that were impacted.  Letters go out once in October for those on these plans currently, and again in February of 2014 for those who selected a low performing plan this AEP with a 1/1/14 effective date.

How well do you know your election periods? Dual Eligibles

In case you’ve missed it, we started a little series on election periods. Did you know there are over 20 SEPs (Special Election Periods) for MAPD and Prescription Drug Plans? 

Here’s the scoop on Dual Eligibles:
Dual Eligibles are defined as those having both Medicare and either partial or full  Medicaid benefits. Here are some qualification items you can ask to verify their status: Medicaid Card, Medicaid Award Letter, Medicaid #, or Member Attestation Form. 

As long as they are eligible for dual status they have a continuous open enrollment  period. For those who have recently lost their status (which can be verified by member attestation or state notice showing loss of status), then the SEP begins the month of lost dual eligibility and runs for two consecutive months following the first month.
